Substantial Changes to Proposition 65 Warning Regulations Effective August 30, 2018

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) adopted substantial changes to the warning regulations under The Safe Drinking Water and Toxics Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly referred to as Proposition 65. These new regulations become effective August 30, 2018. Under the new regulations, OEHHA clarifies that the primary responsibility for providing warnings to consumers lies with the manufacturer, distributor, producer, and/or packager, rather than the retailer, except under specific circumstances. Wikoff et al. (2017) named Best Paper of Year by Food and Chemical Toxicology

A systematic review of caffeine effects in healthy populations has been named Food and Chemical Toxicology’s Best Paper of the Year (2017). ToxStrategies is pleased to announce the establishment of The Center of Excellence for 21st Century Toxicology (21CT). “Systematic Review” introduced as manuscript category in Toxicol Sci

ToxStrategies toxicologist Dr. Daniele Wikoff is a co-author with the Editor-In-Chief of Toxicological Sciences, Dr. Gary Miller, on a just-published editorial announcing the creation of a new category of manuscripts for the journal: “Systematic Review.” Toxicological Sciences seeks submissions of systematic reviews, as well as manuscripts related to methodological advances or best practices, thus facilitating the integration and evolution of evidence-based practice in toxicology. ToxStrategies publishes on acrylates in lead-up to IARC discussion

This month, interdisciplinary scientific experts will meet in Lyon, France, to evaluate the potential of ethyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, and 2-ethylhexly acrylate, along with other substances, to increase the risk of cancer. The findings from this evaluation will be reported in Volume 122 of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Monographs Program. Advantages of a proactive strategy for Low-Priority designation under TSCA

Overview of EPA’s chemical prioritization process (reproduced from EPA’s TSCA website)   Under the amended Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the U.S. EPA plans to initiate prioritization of 40 chemicals from the existing chemical inventory—at least 20 Low-Priority and 20 High-Priority candidates—by the end of calendar year 2018. ToxStrategies engineer warns of TSCA impact on OSHA

Dr. Bill Rish told an audience at the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council’s Annual Conference that risk evaluations conducted under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), as amended by the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, could produce differences between EPA and OSHA on acceptable chemical exposures.
